Here’s the thing: I am a huge fan of music (if it isn’t obvious already, LOL). Music is more often than not my muse and inspiration to write and draw and a means for me to get into character when writing or drawing anything OC-related. When I’ve invested a lot of time into some characters, I sometimes end up making a whole playlist for them. This is what happened with Team Avant-Garde.

I just thought I’d share it with you guys because I believe that like pictures, a song is worth a thousand words to describe a certain facet of a character’s personality. (Besides, Stephenie Meyer shared her self-built playlist for Twilight on her website, so I feel justified to do this. XD)

Marius Melrose Songs

“The Nights” – Avicii

A song about, well, the fact that YOLO. Marius sees the world as an opportunity for a rip-roaring adventure and he’s going to spend every night living it to the fullest, because those are the nights that never die!

“Love’s Vagrant” – Revo

A flamboyant and whimsical battle theme because he prides himself on his ability to make even fighting seem effortless. He is a tricky, agile, and graceful fighter (with a knack for pissing opponents off left and right).

“Centuries” – Fall Out Boy

A song about the youthful dream of making a mark. Hoping to become a seasoned adventurer and cartographer, he wants to be someone whose name will be remembered for centuries (or, at least, a really long time).

“Last One Standing” – Simple Plan

A song about being undeterrable. Marius may just be a little rose, but he’s a dauntless one at that; whatever obstacles bar him from his goal he is determined to surmount. He’ll always keep fighting because that’s the only way he’ll be the last one standing.

“Aftermath” – Muse

Finally, a song about a more vulnerable Marius because he isn’t always snark, sarcasm, and fancy fighting, and battles are not always won. He’s not afraid of tougher enemies, but he is afraid of the word “goodbye”....

Delta Silverspire Songs

“Dream” – Imagine Dragons

A song about what happens in our heads... and what happens outside. Growing up in a sheltered household, Delta prefers to spend most of her time in her own fantasy world because life simply isn’t what it seems....

“Lead Sails (and a Paper Anchor)” – Atreyu

A song about leaving home. To Delta, this means a lone journey from her safe sanctuary into the tumultous, daunting unknown. At that time, she felt fearful and lost and just really wanted to go back home.

“Windward” – Revo

A beautiful, classical-esque battle theme. Like Delta herself, the song is unassuming but has a vibe to it that reminds you of a ballet performance, which is quite fitting for a keen-eyed, careful, and precise crane-like iron bird.

“Defying Gravity” – Glee

A song about doing something crazy for once. Delta usually prefers to be safe than sorry, but once in a blue moon or when the situation gets really dire, she does wonder if it was probably time to try defying gravity (despite the fact that she’s scared to death).

“Iridescent” – Linkin Park

A song about letting go. Delta has always been locked in battle with her insecure, unconfident, and self-doubting inner demon, but everything actually takes place in her own head. She just needs to accept herself for who she is.

Songs about the Bird and the Rose

“Time and Confusion” – Anberlin

A song about how a good friend is sometimes everything you need: when time and confusion collide, sing it – I hold it all when I hold you.

“On the Wing” – Owl City

A song about aerial adventures because there’s nothing like spending time with a dear friend while feeling the wind in your face: we’re both on the wing! Look down and keep on singing, and we can go anywhere!

“When Two are One” – Atreyu

A song about staying by each other’s side through thick or thin: like a rising tide, beating hearts grow but never die. To simplify, I’ll stand by your side, close my eyes – hope will never die.
